SPRING CLEAN YOUR BODY WHILE YOU SPRING CLEAN YOUR BOAT

Every year I fast for two weeks in the Spring and then again in the Autumn. I have done this for the last twenty years and it makes me feel refreshed and full of energy. The benefits are immediate, not just at the end of the fasting period.

 

I don’t do this to lose weight but to refresh my system. The added advantage, of course, is that I do lose weight and love watching all those Greek memories (pork chops) disappearing from my hips.

 

Let me make it clear that fasting is not starvation. Consuming nothing at all is abstinence beyond the body's nutrient reserves. In other words, starvation will kill you, while fasting will cleanse and invigorate you. It simply consumes the nutrient reserves stored in your body.

 

When I fast I do not stop the intake of everything. From the start I drink water and some fruit and vegetable juices. Towards the end of the two weeks I eat some solid food so that I gently prepare my body to resume a normal diet. I take some exercise, walks and plenty of rest. I try not to vary my normal

daily routine too much but I take more time for myself. I am always surprised at how much more energy and what a wonderful light and optimistic mind I seem to have during fasting.


This Spring I am planning to begin my two week fast on 8
th March. If anybody would like to learn more, and perhaps join me this time, I will be only too willing to offer advice. If enough people are interested then perhaps we can put a programme together so we can enjoy the experience together.
