THE BEACH CLEAN UP By Aidan, Caitriona, Leah and Tiger |
|
On Tuesday 5th February, at 2 o'clock, a group of adults and children met up at the beach to do some beach combing. Some of the treasures that were found consisted of plastic bottle tops, trousers, a cat's skull, odd shoes, a headless baby doll, toothbrushes, glass which the children didn't touch and two pairs of knickers! Thirty bags were filled with non-biodegradable rubbish. Everyone worked as a team and it really made a difference to the beach. We found the experience exciting and a little tiring. Some children had sore backs, sweaty hands from the rubber gloves and sticky boots, but they soldiered on and felt proud of the result! |

To finish off a perfect beach combing day, Osnat brought some delicious dough to bake and barbecue on the bonfire. We loved kneading the lumps of dough and slapping it onto the hot grill. The hot 'squishy' barbecue flavoured bread was delicious. We look forward to the next beach combing bonfire day. ISRAELI PITA BREAD FOR BONFIRE PARTIES Ingredients 2 ½ -3 cups lukewarm water 1 Tbsp dried yeast 1 Kg flour ½ Cup sugar 1 Tbsp salt ¼ cup oil More flour for dusting 1. In a big bowl mix water and yeast until dissolved. Add flour and sugar, and mix. Then add salt and oil. Mix with your hands for a few minutes. The dough will be sticky. 2. Cover the bowl with a plastic bag or a towel. Let the dough rest for at least 20 minutes in a warm place. Punch the dough and let it sit in the refrigerator until you need it. 3. At the bonfire, divide the dough into small apple size balls, cover with flour and let everybody flatten the dough as much as possible. 4. Place the dough on the grill for a few minutes and turn it over until it is brown on both sides. Remove the pita with tongs.
