Anchoring  - a child’s lament

Christopher of ‘Mianda’

“ You know what you’re doing, do it all by the book.

So how come you lose it when you drop the hook?”

Yep, Eileen  Quinn’s got it nailed in The Anchoring Dance. Why is anchoring so stressful for adults and kids? The adults want to park the boat safely and the kids… Do I have to continue? We all know it all ready.  And as far as I can see it, kids are either on deck helping Dad (and getting the blame when it goes wrong) or down below, not doing anything (and STILL getting the blame when things go wrong). So, what can you do? Was it my fault

that we lost our brand new stainless steel CQR when someone didn’t check the swivel?

I have been Anchor Boy on ‘Mianda’ for four years now, and am reasonably confident of my capabilities. To all those who want to help, I would advise watching Dad, big bro, Mum, or  whoever it is on the foredeck when you anchor, and little by little, you’ll learn what to do … and what not to do when you witness a cock-up. To all those who don’t help because they are too lazy, try doing more around the boat and more will come to you! Honest.

That reminds me. Someone who says he’s never dragged is fibbing. We’ve all dragged at some time or other. That’s just life on a boat.

Why? Will that help my sore throat?

Doctor:

No, I just don’t like the man next door.

Chop the onions into small slices, i.e. 1/8 the onions and thinly slice across. Mix all the dry ingredients together in a big bowl, add the water to make a very thick mixture, (may not need all the water), add the onions, the mixture is then spooned into about 9 balls and put into hot fat. Fry til golden, about 5mins.................EAT…………..mmmmmmm!!
