Bright Eyes!

Written by Marcus whilst in Gümüslük, Turkey

Half way through the holiday and Jamie certainly made today an adventurous one. We visited Rabbit Island, which as the name suggests, is an island that is inhabited by rabbits! Whether the locals put the rabbits there on purpose to draw in tourism I don’t know, but I’m sure I heard “Bright Eyes, Burning like Fire” whistling in the wind. To get to the island you had to roll your shorts up to your thighs and wade through a causeway from the main land. Bizarre, Wet, Painful and Fun all rolled into one.

After a coffee by the beach (accompanied by yet another cat), we strolled into a rural part of Gümüslük to pick mandarins off the trees and I bought myself a Turkish souvenir…a silver ring to replace one I lost one drunken night.

To make today even more active we climbed a mountain! (Well it was more like a hill – But it felt like a mountain) At the top it was just the five of us peering down at Gümüslük in the hazy afternoon sun, we could see Rabbit Island, Esper and more importantly the place where we were going to eat tonight.

Back to the boat to enjoy some Vodka Tonics with (stolen) mandarins and then onto The Limon Cafe. The Limon Cafe is a Bohemian restaurant in the hills with sofas and tables facing the setting sun. When the sun has gone away, the stars come out to play. Food and drink were generally good, but it was the view and company that made tonight the best part of the holiday. A few shooting stars later and it was back to my bunk. I felt knackered from all of today’s exercise!

Sailing Advise Number 5: When wading through the causeway today I stubbed my toe on one of the many pebbles…it hurt! So it’s a good idea to get waterproof sandals when on a boat, ones that can be worn in and out of the water. My Advise is so good!
