Goosewinging It All The Way!

Today promised some great sailing with pretty much the whole day running down wind. We headed towards the Goekova Peninsular with no exact decision about where to stay – there are plenty of places to choose from, so we just decided to see where the wind would take us, literally.

We picked up more wind as Jamie poled out the genoa and we ran goosewing. Wow, it was great! The sense of speed was tremendous. We seldom dropped below 7 knots and I was at the helm when we clocked our first 10 knots! With the wind behind us practically the whole way we gave chase and over took quite a few other yachts. Esper seemed to love it as much as us.

engpontoonAs we got closer to land we decided to head for English Harbour. It was pretty windy, so we found somewhere to anchor with a little shelter. We ended up away from the pontoons with 2 lines to the land and our anchor. This turned out to be a good thing as we watched a whole flotilla turn up on the pontoon and pack themselves in – it was Jon’s lot!

I fell asleep in the hammock after our long walk and Jamie looked for the most beautiful white kitten he’d seen on his previous visit. Turned out some Germans nicked it when they anchored up a week before! B@st@rds! Just hope they looked after it properly…
